Don\u2019t hold your breath and continue to breathe as normal.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On an inhale, clasp your hands in front of your chest, hinge your hips backward, and bend your knees, dropping down into a squat position. Stop once your thighs are parallel (or almost parallel) to the floor.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hold this position for a few seconds and then on an exhale, push through your heels and return to the standing position.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is one rep. Do 8 to 12 reps for 1 set.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you can\u2019t do this, modify the exercise by using a chair. Chair squats are simply body squats with a little less demand for stability and balance. Basically, instead of squatting in the air, you squat into the chair and then get back up.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Lunges\"><\/span><strong>Lunges<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like squats, lunges are a popular lower-body workout. Research on this exercise has shown that it can help boost your functional fitness and improve your muscle strength and static and dynamic balance (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/journals.lww.com\/nsca-jscr\/fulltext\/2009\/05000\/forward_lunge__a_training_study_of_eccentric.36.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">9<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC9925109\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One study also showed that lunges worked better at targeting and activating the gluteus maximus than back squats, so if you want a perky butt, lunges are a necessary exercise to have in your routine (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/351504410_Lunges_activate_the_gluteus_maximus_muscles_more_than_back_squats_when_both_exercises_are_standardized\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">11<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like squats, lunges come in many variations, but in this case, we\u2019ll be focusing on the forward lunge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s how to do a forward lunge:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stand with your feet hip-width apart. Clasp your hands in front of your chest or place them on your hips.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take a large step forward with your right foot &#8211; the step should be longer than your normal walking stride. Place the foot in front flat on the ground. If the heel of the back foot rises off the ground, that\u2019s okay.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Drop to the ground by bending both knees at a 90-degree angle. Keep your chest upright and your core engaged.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To come back to the standing position, push through the foot in front of you. This is one rep.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do 10 reps on this leg, then switch to the other leg and repeat. Alternatively, you can switch legs after each rep.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you can\u2019t bend both knees to a 90-degree angle, that\u2019s okay. Simply bend to the point you\u2019re most comfortable with. You can work out to the 90-degree angle with time. If you\u2019re afraid of falling over, place a chair in front of you and hold on to it.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Planks\"><\/span><strong>Planks<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forget sit-ups and crutches, planks are an awesome exercise for core strength.
